The Lost Colony is considered by many, one of the best outdoor theater experiences in the U.S. Want to learn more about the origins of our beautiful nation? This is the place to do it, right on the Roanoke Island.
Paul Green’s drama piece shows the amazing history behind the disappearance of the English colonists who first arrived here in the US after their long journey from Europe. It greatly depicts a late 16th-century attempt to establish a permanent English settlement in what later became the Virginia Colony. The final group of colonists disappeared in the midsts of the Anglo-Spanish War, some time after the last shipment of supplies from England. The fate of the colonists has never been determined. Unrecorded is still the end of that 1587 colony – leading to its being referred to as the “Lost Colony”.
Did they dispersed and blend with the locals at Hatteras Island? They they assimilate with one or other of the natives or did they fight and loose their battle for survival?
Let’s also remember that Paul Green is a Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama in 1927 for his Broadway play “In Abraham’s Bosom” and therefore you are in for a special kind of treat in “The Last Colony”.
